EM-Con was a very enjoyable day out – to consider this is only the convention’s third year, and the first time it has spanned two days, is worth a lot of praise. If the team behind EM-Con continue this rate of growth then expect them to be pulling in bigger and bigger guests over the next couple of years. It might not be situated in London but EM-Con is developing into an unsung gem amongst the UK’s conventions.
We had a fantastic time at the event, trawling the stalls, meeting the stars and being frightened by zombies! But it was the fans who made the day, with their bold and brilliant costumes in tribute to their favourite characters.
While the names may have been the selling point, it’s the people who lift Em-Con ... there’s an enviable amount of effort and creativity in the ‘cosplayers’ dotting the floor. Imagine there were a few double-takes on the number 77 from Strelley!
It's starting to seem like Nottingham is the place to be for Red Dwarf fans in 2015 ... we can't recall the last time any convention managed to get a full complement of Red Dwarf series regulars, past and present, in one place at the same time.
Sci-fi and fantasy nerds alike, this one’s for you. The best in sci-fi television, comic and book talent are descending on Nottinghamn. Pop on your best ghost-busting boiler suit and get practising your best dalek voice to impress your favourite characters from Dr Who, Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. Leave behind the drudgery of reality for a day, and immerse yourself in a wonderland of fantastical creatures.

It was my first time at EM-Con and I loved it. Only booked for Saturday because I had a prior arrangement for Sunday, but it was fantastic. The atmosphere was so relaxed, the staff were very helpful and the guests were so friendly. I met Dave Prowse again for the first time since I was a child and he was lovely. Also managed to meet the Stargate actors, so amazing and friendly. My mother and I are definitely going again next year and I highly recommend it to anyone.
I travelled from the south coast to this convention and loved it. The people were friendly and the volunteers helpful. I loved that you could get group photo shoots with people from the same show and the ops were not rushed at all (I had three retakes). Lots of space to sit and plenty to see. My only regret was not being able to stay longer. Well done. I would make the journey again.
Just keeps getting better and better. Three years down and many more to go (we hope). Had a thoroughly enjoyable time and putting it on over two days certainly helped keep the crowds down to a nice comfortable level. The cosplayers were amazing (as always) and help to make it a better show. EM-Con staff did a marvellous job in the organised chaos that are autograph and photo queues. Atlantis talk was amazing. I have been to many events over a long time and this is on my list for repeats every year. Thanks again to one and all and see you on the flip side
What a fantastic event from beginning to the end. Pity we were there for only one day as I did not even get chance to go round the stalls. I normally go to events on my own and would have been in the same opinion, however this event we consisted of three adults and two children and we all had a brilliant time. The team of helpers were happy and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back next year without a doubt!
Absolutely fantastic event. This show has grown into one of the best in the UK. Well organised with a wonderful friendly team that love what they do. A great selection of guests from popular TV shows from the 60s to the present day. Looking forward to the next one! This will be hard to beat!
I had such a great time. Fantastic guests and amazing cosplayers. It was my first time cosplaying and I had so much fun. Wonderful stalls, friendly staff and such a great relaxed atmosphere. This is my third year going and I'll definitely be back next year. Well done EM-Con.
This was my first EM-Con and we had the best time! Well organised and fab atmosphere, but above all the guests were amazing! Lots of laughs were had and so nice to spend time with such legends.
Absolutely loved EM-Con again this year. It's definitely getting bigger and better. Fantastic guests, great friendly atmosphere and still extremely reasonably priced. Can't wait until next year.
My third Em-Con and it does just get better every year. I had an absolutely cracking time in costume both days. Well organised and plenty to do. My kids' first con and they can't wait for next year! Great job EM-Con and the Arena.
This was our first convention so really didn't know what to expect. I was worried about taking two high energy children, but everyone was so patient with them. We were amazed how our little girl (20 months) reacted. She just loved everything, including the zombies! Special thanks to Scampi and Twirl who made her day. My partner was very apprehensive about going as it isn't really his thing, but he got involved and loved it. We will return to this convention every year, it was a great family day out.
Em-Con is one of my favourite conventions in my con-calendar. I've been the last three years and it just keeps getting better and better! Very well organised; knowledgeable and friendly crew; great guests; and there's something about the ambience of the venue that other cons lack which I absolutely love. Highlight of yesterday was The Walking Dead talk which was a great insight into the show and a whole lot of fun! Roll on next year's event... can't wait!
Third year and it has never failed to impress me. It goes from strength to strength, a variety of stalls, fantastic cosplayers and friendly guests! I also love how small the afterparty was kept too as it gave guests a chance to mingle with everyone. Long may EM-Con continue.
A massive thank you to all the staff, volunteers, attendees and guests who were at EM-Con because I had a fabulous time. You all made me feel very welcome and as I had travelled over by myself I never felt alone as I always seemed to find someone to talk to. Hopefully see you all next year.
Absolutely fab weekend at EM-Con 2016. There were great selection of guests, lots of interesting stalls to browse and some amazing cosplays! (I especially liked the Red Dwarf ones, but then I'm biased.) It was busy, but not overly so. I hate when it's so busy that you can't move or see anything. The seats in the arena were an absolute godsend, we could rest, but also watch the crowds; I love a good people watch, especially with the added cosplay element! Huge thanks to the whole team there for making it such an enjoyable experience, see you at the next EM-Con!
Wow! Absolutely brilliant, if I wasn't so amazed by all there was on offer there, I'd be able to find the words to express how brilliant it truly was, but no, I'm truly speechless! A truly brilliant convention! Highly recommend!
I'd just like to thank everyone who was there at the weekend and made this brilliant event such fun to be at. Awesome guests, fantastic stall holders. EM-Con had the best atmosphere of any event I've been to, so relaxed, with plenty of seating, chatty celebs. Can't wait for the next one!
It was our first time at EM-Con and we loved it, so much cosplay! They were so polite and happily let my son have photos taken. Austin St John was amazing, he took a few minutes to come say hi, we brought some pretty cool stuff too. All in all was a great day, bring on next year!
Absolutely amazing! I sadly only went for the Saturday this year, but it was great! I cosplayed as a female version of Captain Kirk and the atmosphere was amazing! People complimenting each other on costumes, politely asking for pictures. Compared to last year it was so much more organised. Much more open space so people weren't cramped up, and celeb signings/photos were a lot more organised too. Can't wait to go back next year!

Well I was a convention virgin until today and can definitely say my inner geek has been well and truly unleashed!!! It was a fantastic day out, photos with storm troopers and Cybermen, and the panels were great, the Torchwood guys were hilarious!! Roll on next year, can't bloomin wait!

Traders
We went from a charity dealer perspective (Beeston Browncoats) and had a great day. We arrived a little late and had some trouble getting access to set up, but as soon as we found an orange shirt we were spot on. We had a full day at our stall, along with our five-year-old son. He stayed the full day and that should be enough of a positive review. For there to be enough to entertain a five-year-old for a full day speaks volumes. We all loved meeting cosplayers, chatting with people on the stall, browsing the very individual stalks (Miss Kitty, the talented artists and hat/mask-makers among them) in a comfortable environment. The little man could wander around without getting crushed or pushed and jostled, he got shout-outs from the guests (thanks Joe Altin) and we never felt overlooked. My wife had a very special day meeting DT May and as it was the first time she cosplayed (as Kaylee from Firefly) so was a little self-conscious. Due to the wonderful atmosphere she's now thinking of cosplaying more! We also made a nice amount for our charity, so thank you Lee and the EM-Con team for a fab day!
As a dealer I can honestly say thank you so much to Lee and crew, it was a superbly crafted event. A superb cross-section of interesting guests and everyone seemed to be happy with what was on offer on our stall and those of other dealers. Superb stuff.
In two years of doing conventions, we sold more in one day at EM-Con than we did in 2.5 days at London Film and Comic Con in the summer (which was our best up to then). We've never done so well at a con before (and may not again!) so of course we want to come back!
It was our first convention and we had a really good day, sold a lot of t-shirts and met some great people. We had such a good day we went to another sci-fi convention a month later, but sadly it wasn't as well run or well attended as EM-Con!
Crew
Attended the first two and crewed this one and I loved every second of it! The atmosphere was amazing. EM-Con are flourishing considering it's their third year and I couldn't be prouder to be part of it. I look forward to seeing it grow more and more as the years go on.
First time crewing this event and I must say I loved every second of it. Made some awesome friends and met many amazing people. I didn't want it to ever end! Can't wait to crew again next year. Everyone was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic. I feel so proud to be a part of it all.
